ROCK-N-ROLL ALCOHOL & FUCKING IN THE STREETS (NORWAY)
Yeah you make me happy, Waxvaccine Records! The Nightmares comes with a six pack and
a bottle of vodka and the dirtiest american rock´n roll I´ve heard in ages! No wonder really, as some of the
members have been in bands like Poison Idea, New Wave Hookers and the great Weaklings. It´s easy to get addicted to these songs, especially Empty, where you can feel the sadness and it´s not far away from the Devil Dogs´ cover of Gene Pitney´s Backstage. You´re really gonna love the Nightmares if the Devil Dogs is a household name with you, and let the voice of Gen Genocide cut through your bones too, as the sweat is dripping from your speakers! I swear it is!

NOW WAVE ZINE (LANCASTER, PA)
Hot damn, I've been getting a lot of good promo lately! What's with all these bands making such awesome music? They're making it awfully hard for me to be critical! Someone needs to send me a lousy record so I can be mean again!
Portland's Nightmares remind me little a bit of the Bellrays, and that can only be a good thing. They've got a GREAT lead singer named Genny Genocide, and, boy, can she flat-out BELT it! Yowza. Her raspy, convictive delivery brings to mind Janis Joplin, a young Melissa Etheridge, and Kat Arthur from Legal Weapon. You hear a vocalist like her and thank God she's fronting a punk group instead of squandering her chops singing Bonnie Raitt covers for some shitty bar band. It's not often that you hear a powerhouse punk rock n' roll band with a "professional" quality singer - and maybe sometimes that sort of thing might not work. But in the case of the Nightmares, it definitely works.
Musically, the Nightmares are nothing fancy. They rip it up raw and hard, with energy and guts in excess. Some bands of this style sound like they're just rehashing a tired formula, and the resulting mediocrity is usually as forgettable as your typical bowel movement. But this group plays with force and feeling and that often-elusive spark. A lot of that spark is in the vocals, for sure, but the band's pretty hot too. The hard-driving "Spin My Wheel" is straight-up rockin' punk. I dig. "Breakdown" is an absolute monster - a hip-shakin', fist-wavin', bolt of MC5 style electricity. "Empty" is a nice change of pace. It's a slower-paced bluesy pop song buoyed by strong melodies and a phenomenal vocal.
Overall, I love the production, which is strictly no-frills and perfect for a dirty rock and roll recording. I could be wrong, but the EP sounds like it was probably cut live in the studio on analog tape. If I've got any criticism at all, it's that the last couple songs are just so-so...If I just listened to the first half of this disc, I'd be floored; if I just listened to the second half, I'd be mildly intrigued. Somewhere in between, you've got a really solid band with great potential. I can't wait to hear more!

PUNK INFORMATION DOT COM (MESA,AZ)
Kick ass punk rock outta Portland, OR with tough female vocals courtesy of Gen Genocide. Super driving guitar sound with a nice blend of lead guitar. There is nothing refined about this. This is some raw shit just the way punk rock is supposed to be. They throw in one ballad amongst the six tunes just to change things up a bit but they are at their best when they are rocking out. It's an interesting looking band too. Two way hot young ladies with a couple of long haired guys, one of which looks like Oliver Platt. Highly recommended.

LOWCUT (DENMARK)
5 tracks + 1 live tune. This Portland 4-piece deals in sleazy punky 70s rock’n’roll and glam. I really like Gen Genocide’s voice which reminds me a bit of Texas Terri or Suzi Quatro-gone-punk. The music is somewhat bland, especially the guitar, not bad, there’s a lotta potential but ”Loose And Dangerous” just isn’t anything sensational. The Nightmares features ex-members of The Weaklings, New Wave Hookers, Hellside Strangers, and Poison Idea.
If you dig: Texas Terri, Jeff Dahl, Alice Cooper

LONG GONE LOSER ZINE(AUSTRALIA)
Awesome female fronted garage rock from Portland, Oregon. No holds barred, just stripped back ass kickin rawk with high heels, hot chicks and hot licks, maybe even at the same time. Im into this and if you dig the sounds of punk rock n roll like Electric Frankenstein, The Weaklings, Candy Snatchers, etc. then the Nightmares are gonna be right up your back alley, Sally.

The ODYSSEYZINE
This is a CD that got lost in the shuffle for a while, but I’ve been lost in the shuffle for a while, so it seems appropriate to give this one its due. This EP covers a fair amount of ground for a dirty little rock band, and the raspy-throated lady vox are a nice touch for a band like this. You’ve got an opening “c’mon rock” track–sleazy rock and roll that’s perfect for shouting “c’mon” to. Then things cook onward with a nice little soulpunk track before it settles down for a nice little ballad. Then you finish out with a few rockers. At six tracks, it’s pretty hard to overstay your welcome. The Nightmares understand that less can indeed be more. Nice.
